Chakrata is a small hill town near Dehradun located on top of the Yamuna valley, amidst lush green forests, caves and ancient temples. Once a small hamlet of Jaunsari tribe called Jaunsar Bawar, Chakrata located above 7000 ft looks down upon the Yamuna valley and is popular for its picnic spots. The place was developed by the executives of the East India Company and also encloses a military cantonment. Trek up the Kharamba peak at 10,000 ft while in Chakrata. One can also enjoy skiing, bird-watching and exploring the wilderness. Many caves are also to be found around Chakrata.

The best time to visit Chakrata is from March to June when the weather is pleasant for sightseeing and outdoor activities. September to November is also good with clear skies. Winters (December-February) can be cold but offer beautiful views, while monsoons (July-August) may have roadblocks due to landslides.
The Bhuder Cave trek is of moderate difficulty level covering about 5km. It involves some steep sections but is manageable for people with average fitness levels. Proper walking shoes are recommended for the trek.
Pack comfortable clothing suitable for the season, good walking shoes, sunglasses, sunscreen, and a light jacket even in summer. For winters, carry heavy woolens. Don't forget your camera to capture the stunning views!
