Detailed Itinerary

  • Arrive at Dehradun and start your journey towards Sankri village
  • Drive along Yamuna and Tons river, with pine forests surrounding your way
  • After the breezy ride reach Sankri and check-in to the comfortable campsite
  • Enjoy a lip-smacking dinner at the campsite
  • Overnight stay at Sankri

  • After breakfast, you will set out on the hike from Saur Village and start climbing up
  • Along the way, we will cross several high-altitude suspension bridges and small villages
  • Reach the lake called Juda Ka Talab, where Lord Shiva had opened a small lock of his hair and water dripped from his hair forming this huge lake
  • Step out of your camps and witness the starlit sky beside the frozen lake
  • Overnight stay at Juda Ka Talab

  • Enjoy breakfast at Juda Ka Talab, and head towards Kedarkantha base
  • Immerse yourself in the beauty of snow-lined path and patches of green that surrounds your way
  • In case the weather is harsh, comfort yourself at the safe and equipped Gujjar huts
  • The imposing view of the snow-capped Himalayan peaks of Bandarpoonch, Swargarohini, Kala Nag and Ranglana will knock the breath straight out of you
  • Upon reaching the campsite, mark the end of the day with a wonderful dinner and retire to the tents for the night

  • The most exciting day of the trek begins as early as 4 am, today you will conquer Kedarkantha Peak
  • During the trek, you will pass through a few portions of Oak forest with the ascend to as high as 12,500 ft
  • The last climb to the peak is adventurous, spot a small temple dedicated to Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati overlooking the region
  • Enjoy your time at the top, descend back to the base camp to fill up your empty stomachs with hot lunch
  • Rest for a few more minutes and descend to Hargaon
  • Once again it's the journey covering the dense Oak, Pine, and Maple forest with many shepherds' huts at different spots
  • Reach the campsite, pitch the tents and mark an end to the delighted day

  • Now, we descend back to Sankri which is from 8900 feet to 6400 feet
  • The track is 3.5 kms and descending down would take 2-3 hours or a little more
  • After breakfast we set out on our journey and the path is a well paved one
  • On our way we shall witness pine forests and streams of fresh water flowing
  • As the sun beams between the pine trees, nature exposes itself in its true glory
  • Further down we across a ridge from where we get to see the magnificent view of Har ki Dun valley or the Valley of Gods
  • The scenic splendour refreshes our senses as we continue our trek
  • As we come close to Sankri, signs of habitation are visible
  • The last 2500ft we come across dense pine forests and by 11am we will reach Sankri
  • After reaching Sankri, we will depart to Dehradun
  • End of the Trek with happy memories

What is the best time to do Kedarkantha Trek?

The Kedarkantha trek is best done between December to April when the trail is covered in snow, making it a perfect winter trek. The months of January and February offer the most snow. For those who prefer less snow, November and early December are good options.

How difficult is the Kedarkantha trek?

Kedarkantha is considered a moderate trek suitable for beginners with reasonable fitness. The total distance is about 20-25 km with a gradual ascent. The summit climb is steep but manageable with proper pacing. Winter months add difficulty due to snow.

What kind of accommodation is provided during the trek?

Accommodation is in high-quality alpine tents (twin/triple sharing) with sleeping bags and sleeping mats provided. Some nights may be in guest houses in villages when available. All campsites are carefully selected for safety and scenic beauty.

What is the temperature range during the trek?

Day temperatures range from 10°C to 15°C while nights can drop to -5°C to -10°C, especially at higher campsites. During peak winter (Jan-Feb), night temperatures at summit can go down to -15°C. Proper layering is essential.

Is there mobile network availability during the trek?

Mobile network is available only till Sankri village. Beyond that, there's no network coverage during the trek. BSNL and Jio may work intermittently at some high points. It's best to inform family about the network unavailability in advance.
